Bloom Energy’s (NYSE: BE) latest innovation, the Bloom Energy Server, is a technology that can generate 100 kilowatts of power and is the size of a shipping container. It can provide clean electricity to a small office building or a data center. It immediately caught the attention of industry giants like Google, eBay, and Walmart, who are deeply committed to becoming less of a burden on our planet. Now, I feel better using these platforms, knowing that part of their energy is cleanly sourced, and that our home can do better alongside us.

The Bloom Energy Server isn’t just a good idea; it’s a game-changer for the energy industry. The solid oxide fuel cells that power the Bloom Energy Server can run on a variety of fuels, including biogas, natural gas, and hydrogen. This makes it a flexible solution for businesses looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

This idea began with K.R. Sridhar, a mechanical engineer who worked on an ambitious project at NASA in the 1990s that aimed to split water using solar energy to create oxygen on Mars. Though the project ultimately was canceled, the idea of finding sustainable energy solutions stuck with Sridhar. He realized that the technology that could help us breathe on Mars could also help us breathe better on Earth.

Driven by his desire for improving conditions on earth, Sridhar changed the direction of his career and founded Bloom Energy (NYSE: BE) in 2001. His goal was to find new ways of generating energy with different fuels. The technology he developed is based on solid oxide fuel cells, which use a ceramic material to convert fuel into electricity without combustion.

But the Bloom Energy Server isn’t the only innovative product that Bloom Energy (NYSE: BE) has developed. The company has also created a device called the Bloom Electrons, which can be installed in homes and businesses to reduce energy costs and improve the reliability of the power supply. By providing energy on-site, Bloom Electrons can reduce the need for expensive and inefficient power transmission systems.
